Unless you're sitting on your duff doing ntoihng, I'm sure the money you spent on film school was not wasted. Personally, I skipped the school and went the equipment route bought the gear and software, et. al. Now I'm in the learning curve. There's no one right way to get there. One way or the other time or money or both, there's always a price to be paid. I think this guy has it right. Just get out there and do what you love. I wish you the success in your endeavors.Peace
